Welcome to this exhibition of work from our graduating year of BA (Hons) Theatre Practice, showcasing their accomplishments through images, sounds, artefacts, digital presentations and process work. The work is the product of three years of study and practice within live and digital learning environments.

This is our first year of graduating students who navigated their first two years of study under COVID 19 restrictions. Through the most challenging of times in education, they had to adapt experiment and evolve, as we all did, within an ever-changing landscape for the education and professional entertainment sector. Whilst theatres across the UK were dark, our students continued to produce work and explore new ways of practising. They rose to the challenge and have achieved some extraordinary work, despite, and because of, the challenges they faced. This ingenuity and determination form the foundation of skills they will take through their entire professional career.

Now, more than ever in recent years, we see a radically different cultural sector, recognising the responsibility we have to society, our well-being, working practices and the economy. Our students have a stronger articulation of their social responsibility and commitment to sustainable practices than we have experienced in a long time. As a programme team we feel a great deal of pride in their tenacity and what they’ve achieved and how they will thrive as they launch into their profession.

The range of work presented in this exhibition truly captures the vein of determination and creativity running through our students. We hope you enjoy exploring and celebrating the product of their three years in this exhibition and, with the continued support from their BATP community, hope you will equally encourage them, in their careers moving forward.

Welcome to this exhibition of work from our graduating year of BA (Hons) Theatre Practice, showcasing their accomplishments through artefacts, documents, images, sound, digital presentations and process work, all of which has manifested in both the live and digital realms over the last three years of their studies.

The last two years have been challenging for the live performance industries, posing ways in which we have had to adapt our interface with audiences and collaborators. This challenge has been tough but also presented amazing opportunities for experimentation and a demonstration of how adaptable performance makers are. None more so than in the range of work presented in this exhibition. It truly captures the vein of determination and creativity running through our students, despite the continual parameter shifts they have navigated.

Their tenacity will equip them well for their professional journey ahead, having developed the skill to analyse, adapt and evolve their practice within the fluid and ever-changing landscape of the cultural industries.

Now, more than ever in recent years, we see a radically different sector evolving, recognising the responsibility we have to society, our well-being, sustainable practices and the creative economy. These students graduating from the BA Theatre Practice will build on their achievements in the last three years and thrive in that environment, with the continued support from their BATP community.

We hope you enjoy exploring and celebrating the product of their three years in this exhibition and equally support them, as we will, in their careers moving forward.

    BATP Exhibition 2020

Welcome to the BA (Hons) Theatre Practice Exhibition 2020

We are proud to share and celebrate the accomplishments of graduating students from all twelve courses of the BA (Hons) Theatre Practice programme with you. Through encountering many different models of theatre and performance practice across and beyond the School, students develop depth in their specialist skills, collaborating with drama and applied education in theatre, acting, musical theatre and devised and collaborative theatre. They have developed an understanding of the current cultural landscape and the importance of the arts in society; learning core skills in collaboration, experimentation and communication with professional companies and individuals.

This year’s students emerge into a more uncertain world than many of their predecessors and they are ready to establish themselves as the generation who will help us all navigate the more challenging times ahead. They have spent three years developing their specialist practice in preparation for wide-ranging careers within performance and associated arts and I am delighted to share their work with you.
