BATP Exhibition 2020

Congratulations to Central’s final year Theatre Practice students on their BA (Hons) Theatre Practice 2020 Exhibition.  The annual exhibition provides a chance to share and celebrate the accomplishments of graduating students from all twelve courses of the Theatre Practice programme, a degree programme offering a deep understanding of the collaborative process of performance design and production.

This is the first year that Central’s Theatre Practice exhibition has been presented in an entirely digital format, however the work itself manifests in a wide range of tangible artefacts, media, techniques and practices implicit in the making of live and recorded performance work.

Regarding the process of moving the 2020 Exhibition online Nick Moran, Course leader for the Lighting Design & Production Lighting courses, said:

“We were able to use our extensive industry connections to find a sympathetic design studio with proven experience building an online exhibition with up to 100 exhibitors.  We are very fortunate to have quite a bit of curation experience on the Theatre Practice staff team: Simon and Andreas have both designed exhibitions for the Victoria & Albert Museum in London for example, and have extensive experience curating online experiences.

We worked closely with the students to make sure the visitor experience of the exhibition was what they wanted, and that their individual ‘exhibit’ page could do what they want it to do. We also work very closely with the course leaders and visiting professionals to make sure the right people are invited to the exhibition – whether it is online or in our studios at Swiss Cottage.”

Of the Exhibition itself Central’s President, Michael Grandage CBE, said:

“This year’s students emerge into a more uncertain world than many of their predecessors and they are ready to establish themselves as the generation who will help us all navigate the more challenging times ahead.  They have spent three years developing their specialist practice in preparation for wide-ranging careers within performance and associated arts and I am delighted to share their work with you.”

Dr Kathy Sandys, Head of Theatre Practice at Central, said:

“In the summer of 2020, our students move into a radically different professional world.  We know they are equipped with the skills needed to analyse, adapt and evolve their practice.  They have developed a wider understanding of the importance of the cultural industries within society, the economy and our wellbeing as humans.  With this, and with continued support of the Theatre Practice community, they can help to shape a new future.”

The online Exhibition displays work across 12 digital rooms, featuring work from students graduating on:
