Support Dream On Bursaries

Introduction to Dream On Bursaries Fund

Our Principal, Josette Bushell-Mingo OBE, launched the Dream On Bursaries Fund to support those from groups who have been historically underrepresented at Central, focusing firstly on students from Black and Global Majority backgrounds and/or those with a disability.

“Having come from a non-theatre background, I am aware that I have a lot of catching up to do against some of my peers. I would not want to end this year thinking I could have learned more, done more. But you have given me the ability to dedicate time to catching up, to going the extra mile. And for that I am eternally grateful.”

Information about the dream on bursaries

Students from black and global majority backgrounds continue to be underrepresented in the creative and cultural sector, with many potential students feeling like the industry is not a welcome environment. This bursary is available to encourage those from all backgrounds to apply and thrive at Central. Students with a disability commonly experience difficulties whilst studying. A Savanta Poll found nearly one in three disabled students had considered dropping out of university or college because of increases in the cost of living.

As one of the world’s leading performing arts conservatoires, it is vital that we attract and retain members of underrepresented groups so our student body reflects the world we live in. Your support can ensure that a diverse group of artists and creatives can enter the industry with the skills to make a difference.

“Your gift will enable myself to focus merely on the Prop Making course, I will no longer be concerned over having insufficient funds towards potential tools and materials I may have to acquire along the way. As a student living with a kidney transplant, I can suddenly spend days feeling overpowered by lethargy and exhaustion. In the past this has been a major issue finding flexible work placements in restaurants and Cafes. Receiving this bursary means I no longer need to search for a side job.”
