Written and Originally Directed by Mary Zimmerman
Performed by BA (Hons) Acting Musical Theatre
Designed & produced by BA (Hons) Theatre Practice
Presenting the UK premiere of Mary Zimmerman’s Tony Award-winning Metamorphoses, a hallucinogenic retelling of Ovid’s myths of desire and transformation. This take on the stories of Eros and Psyche, Orpheus and Eurydice, Midas, Narcissus, and others brings together the ancient and the contemporary in language and image. Metamorphoses is an elemental flood of love and loss, featuring live sound, live flame, and live water.
‘Writer-director Mary Zimmerman’s lovely, deeply affecting work…recaptures the primal allure of the theater…It shows that theater can provide not just escape but sometimes a glimpse of the divine.’ - Time
By special arrangement with Bruce Ostler, Bret Adams Ltd., 448 West 44th Street, New York, NY 10036.
There are abstracted scenes of a sexual nature, offensive language, and depictions of drowning, incest, and violence against women; references to starvation, cannibalism, and death by suicide. The front row may get splashed with water.
