Best Practice and Innovation

Central academics attain teaching excellence by staying current with best practice and by introducing new innovations into their own teaching.

One of the key ways they stay current with best practice is through teaching partnerships and collaborations. About 60% of such collaborations are with organisations and about 40% with other academics and professionals

Another way they stay current is by serving as external examiners, validation or review panel members, members of curriculum advisory groups, and in other higher education advisory or service positions.

Innovation is introduced in a range of ways. In the 2016-17 year alone, about 75% of the academics generated new course content, about half introduced new pedagogy, 40% produced or commissioned new productions or performance pieces, almost one-third introduced new materials and 20% introduced new technologies. The excellence of teaching at Central has been recognised by the awarding of Gold status in the Teaching Excellence Framework.

Teaching Impact

The proof is in the pudding—student employment outcomes. According to the most recent government survey of Central graduates, employment status after graduation is favourable in comparison to similar institutions (Unistats). It is also demonstrated by the number of Central graduates who have gone on to entrepreneurial success and the number who have won honours and awards.
