Profile

Julia Pascal trained as an actor and was also a journalist before starting her career as a playwright and theatre director. She was the first woman director at the National Theatre on the South Bank with her stage adaptation of Dorothy Parker’s prose and poetry.

Her body of dramas focuses on unrepresented voices, women, immigrants and refugees.  She has written 24 full-length stage plays of which 12 have had major productions. Her work has been seen in the UK, Europe and the US. Her scripts are published by Oberon Books, Samuel French (Inc) and Faber.

Pascal’s plays have been produced at theatres including The Lyric Theatre, Riverside Studios, The Arcola Theatre, The Park Theatre, The Tricycle Theatre, New End Theatre, The Finborough Theatre, Edinburgh Festival.  In New York she has presented work at Theatre for the New City and the Lincoln Centre’s Director’s Workshop. Productions of her texts have also been staged in Austria, France and Germany.
