New Central Student Centre Opens

At the start of our new academic year, we are excited to announce the opening of the new Central Student Centre – a one-stop hub for Student Services at Central which offers the convenience of meeting all student support needs in one place.

The Student Centre is the new home of Central’s Disability and Dyslexia Service, Counselling Service and Student Advice Service.  Conveniently located in Central’s East Block Building (directly above the Library), the Centre also benefits from a close proximity to the Students’ Union office which is just next door, and which rounds out this hub of student support.

Staffing the Student Centre is a diverse team who are experienced in supporting students through many aspects of student life.  They are non-judgemental, knowledgeable and have received training in specialist areas including: Mental Health First Aid, unconscious bias, Trans awareness, supporting victims of sexual violence, conflict resolution, mediation, Suicide Prevention and Working with Trauma and Bereavement, and they continue to develop their range of skills throughout each year.

Central’s Head of Academic and Student Services Angie Mugadza said:

“At Central, we’re committed to providing outstanding support to all of our students throughout their time with us, and the new Central Student Centre has further enabled us to streamline our offerings and to provide an easy to access, single point of contact for our range of support services.  Our team in the Student Centre is professional, experienced and highly skilled.  We also work closely with the Central Students’ Union on matters relating to the student experience, and this has been made even easier now that our offices are next door to each other.”

The Student Centre was officially opened at an event held on Tuesday 8th October with the ribbon cutting ceremony officiated by alumna, Central Board Member and Theatre Producer Emily Thommes.
