Congratulations to this year’s StART Enterprise Slam Award Winners, who were announced via a YouTube livestream hosted by Lyrix Organix on 4 October.

The StART Enterprise Slam is an interactive alternative to Central’s annual Enterprise Award and forms part of the StART Entrepreneurship Project, a collaboration between Central, Royal Northern College of Music and University of the Arts London.  Established in 2020 following a significant grant from the Office for Students and Research England, StART enriches the entrepreneurial training provided at the three institutions via new and enhanced tuition and a range of knowledge exchange activities.  These include student workshops, professional placements, mentorships and networking opportunities with partner organisations across the creative industries sector.

The ambition of the project is to help students develop the necessary skills and real-world experience to build successful and sustainable careers, while researching and sharing best practice with the Arts Education sector.

The winners of the stART Enterprise Slam 2021 are:

  • Geotone Community Interest Company by Paul Hernes Barnes and Andrew Owen Cook

  • Elenina (Sunshine Child) - The Culturally Curious and Non-Defensive Approach to Dramatherapy by Ellen Maslin and Nina Mdwaba

  • The Lovie Diaries by Natasha Stone

Of the event Jessica Bowles, Project Lead for the StART Entrepreneurship Project and Principal Lecturer and course Leader of Central’s MA/MFA Creative Producing Course said:

StART is all about dispelling the myths around starting your own business and having fun getting your ideas off the ground.  We are delighted with the response to this year’s Enterprise Award and we’ve been blown away by the diversity, creativity and sheer inventiveness of the proposals coming through this year.

You can find out more about each of the winning projects and watch the Enterprise Slam event at the StART project page

Next up for the project is the KickStART Creative Lab which runs from 5 – 7 November and will be an opportunity for students across the arts to join together in a weekend of collaborative workshops, skills development and learning for future creative industry leaders.  The schedule will feature interactive sessions, talks and Q&A sessions with exciting guests from a variety of creative practices who have established their unique space and position within the creative industries in the UK.  The team is delighted to announce that over 120 participants have registered to take part in the weekend.  To find out more, visit the project page on Central’s website
