Congratulations to the Newest Recipients of Central’s Enterprise Fund
Central is committed to providing support to students and graduates who wish to start up and develop their own commercial, social or charitable enterprises. The School conducts workshops over the course of the year open to all students and offers competitive funding to graduating students at the end of the academic year as a part of its dedicated Central Start Up and Enterprise Fund.
To apply for this funding, interested students must submit a comprehensive business plan, and those shortlisted must present their business concept and plan to a panel composed of industry professionals.
The School is pleased to announce that having successfully completed their presentations, nine graduating students involved in five enterprises were selected for funding awards this year. Recipients of the 2018/19 Enterprise fund are as follows:
- Andy Hill, Federico Beard Porcel, Jack Tricker, John Scallon: ‘Voicebox’ - £10k
- George Morgan, ‘Shootsmartphone!’: £2,500
- Rachel Vogler & Kimberly Turford, ‘Houselights’: £5,000
- Matt Frener, ‘Matthew Frener Productions (MFP)’: £5,000
- Carolina Cal Angrisani, ‘Brazilian Women Unite’: Dedicated and fully-funded mentoring support
These enterprises are 40% female-led (Houselights and Brazilian Women Unite) and 40% BAME (Shootsmartphone and Brazilian Women Unite). Several are addressing critical social issues: Voicebox is addressing conceptions of masculinity and male mental health through drama and performance practices; Houselights is addressing the dissemination and effective application of sexual harassment policies in the performing arts sector; and Brazilian Women Unite is addressing gender violence experienced by Brazilian women in London.
This year’s panel consisted of: Karen Napier, Chief Executive of WAC Arts; Tim Jones, Culture Mile Manager at the City of London Corporation; and Katie Kerry, Head of CEO Office & Awards General Manager at Society of London Theatres.
