Central graduates, students, prospective students and industry partners are photographed together against a green wall covered in foliage

On Monday 22 May, Central hosted a special event in New York City welcoming alumni, prospective and incoming students, industry contacts, placement hosts and friends to gather and celebrate the community’s successes in the United States.

The occasion provided an opportunity for the Central community in New York to reconnect with each other, catch up with old friends and make new connections.

It was also an opportunity for Central staff to return to the United States after the School’s last event in 2019 and to introduce graduates and friends to new Principal and CEO, Josette Bushell-Mingo OBE, who hosted the event.

Featured on the evening was a talk by MA Applied Theatre Course Leader Professor Selina Busby. There was also a presentation from MA Applied Theatre graduate Jasmeene Francois and postgraduate Applied Theatre Students Lu Ling and Carys Thomas, who are currently working on placement in New York.

Professional placement opportunities allow students to apply their training in a range of practical ways whilst expanding the reach of their practice, and the Central team was especially pleased to welcome placement partners from Strike Anywhere Performance Ensemble and Irondale Ensemble Project as well as to observe work with Roundabout Theatre Company whilst they were in the city.

Of the event, Central’s Alumni and Events Manager Shaun Northover said:

“It was fantastic to reconnect with our incredible alumni and friends in New York! The event united our community who are living and working there, celebrating their remarkable achievements and the lasting impact they continue to have as valued members of the Central family.”
