Alumna Naomi Ackie Features on Exclusive Star Wars Stamp

On 26 November, The Royal Mail issued 16 limited edition Star Wars-themed stamps to mark the release of the latest film in the franchise, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.  Central is delighted to celebrate this release as one of the stamps features alumna Naomi Ackie!

Naomi will play newcomer to the Star Wars universe, Jannah, a character that will be ‘integral’ to the story but has up until now been shrouded in secrecy. After graduating from Central’s BA (Hons) Acting CDT course and starring in her first feature film, William Oldroyd’s Lady Macbeth, she won a British Independent Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer in 2017 and was fittingly named as one of Screen International’s Stars of Tomorrow.

This year Naomi can also be seen in Netflix’s hit show, The End of the F**king World.  Of her fantastic success, BA (Hons) Acting CDT Course Leader, Catherine Alexander, said:

“It is tremendously exciting to have seen Naomi’s journey from her first year on Acting CDT at Central through to her television and film roles. It’s great to see a black woman from a working class background proving that there is definitely a place in the industry for new voices. I am also thrilled that her face will be adorning the stamps on all of my Christmas cards this year!”

Of her training on Central’s BA (Hons) Acting CDT Course, Naomi Ackie said:

“When I left the course, I felt well equipped with tools that would allow me to learn with every opportunity given to me and push the boundaries of what I thought was possible in storytelling.  This course gave me permission to take ownership of my craft and for that I will always be grateful.”

This special stamp collection showcases an array of new and beloved characters in the film, of which Philip Parker, of The Royal Mail, has said:

“The stamps are miniature masterpieces and a fitting tribute to mark the end of the Skywalker saga.”

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is released in UK cinemas on 19 December and also features alumna and Honorary Fellow of Central Carrie Fisher in her final, posthumous role.  The limited edition stamps are available for general sale at 7,000 Post Office branches across the UK and can also be purchased directly from the Royal Mail website.
