Event Information
Please Note: 2023-24 MA Acting (Contemporary and Classical) students will receive a programme of induction events on 5th September 2023. This will be communicated by email.
These online and on campus sessions below are for students starting their studies at Central in October for the 2023/24 academic year. More useful information for new students can be found on the Being a Student webpage.
We strongly encourage you to attend each event, and please note that certain events are compulsory. We will be tracking attendance on compulsory events via Microsoft Teams.
If you cannot attend an online event due to technical difficulties and the event is not repeated in the week, you will be able to access a recording on the 2023-2024 Induction Events Recordings webpage on the MyCentral Student Handbook. You will be able to access this link once you have received your IT services welcome email and which contains your username and password.
Please note that in-person events on campus will not be recorded.
Booking
You do not need to book in advance. To access the links to attend each online event, please use the Induction Events email that will be sent to your personal and CSSD email addresses and click on the links for each event at the specified time to join and enter the accompanying passcode if prompted.
For each in-person event on campus, please follow the instructions listed below and note the ‘Venue’ location and start time. Please visit our Contact Us page for information about how to find our Swiss Cottage Campus.
Induction Week Events Finder
You can use the drop down tabs below to select the sessions that are applicable to you and find your schedule for the week. Some sessions have been allocated by course, do check the schedule carefully for your course to work out which session you should attend. Sessions marked “All new Undergraduate and Postgraduate students” are intended for all new students to attend.
Some sessions are compulsory so that Central knows you are prepared and equipped for the year ahead. Invitations with Microsoft Teams links will be emailed to you directly (to your personal and CSSD email addresses) closer to the time.
Please add the relevant dates and times to your personal calendar or diary in preparation for Induction Week.
Campus Card Collection and Campus Orientation Tour
New students are invited on campus to collect their Campus Card ID and be taken on an orientation tour around the site lead by Central’s Student Ambassadors. Students will learn how to navigate between the campus’ buildings and where to find important offices/services.
International Students on a Student Visa who have been / will be issued a BRP must also bring:
- Passport (not a photocopy);
- Visa/Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) card as collected from your chosen Post Office;
- A printout of their Student Visa Decision Notification Letter (this letter often has ‘UKVI 01’ written in bold at the top of the first page)
International Students who have digital permissions for their Visa (e.g. those who have not been issued a BRP and instead have a Share Code) must also bring:
- Passport (not a photocopy);
- A printout of their Student Visa Decision Notification Letter (this letter often has ‘UKVI 01’ written in bold at the top of the first page)
- a printout of their Share Code.
This will allow Admissions staff to take a copy of these documents at the end of the Orientation Tour to complete part of your registration.

IT Induction - Drop-In Sessions
Students will be emailed with a link to Library Induction videos that have been recorded for 2023-24 academic year. You should watch these videos as they provide all the information you need to get started on your Central IT account, using Brightspace (Central’s Virtual Learning Environment) and accessing your Central email.
Our IT team are also offering two on campus ‘Drop-In’ sessions to help students troubleshoot any problems with logging into their student account or using any of Central’s IT services. These sessions are not compulsory and are available for students who require support.

Library Induction
An essential Library Induction taking place online about Library Services. Shows you how to manage your library account and search Heritage, our Library Catalogue for books and electronic books (eBooks). Please access the meeting with a device that will allow you to navigate around Heritage during the demonstration. Attendance is compulsory for all students, and please use the links emailed to you to join the event.

How to Central
How to Central is an online introduction to Central’s support services and frameworks. Designed to help all students understand what we expect from all of our students and promote an institutional culture that values all individuals. This is a valuable opportunity for a holistic induction to the School and its support services for new students.
This event will also include a welcome from our Principal, Josette Bushell-Mingo.

Campus and Community Induction
In this online session, staff from Central’s Facilities, Learning and Teaching Services, Student Experience and Social Media Team will explain how to use the campus effectively, share important Health and Safety information and take you through everything you need to know when you become part of our community of students.

Online Training – Anti-Racism and Consent Training
This three-hour slot is available for all students to complete two mandatory online training courses. You will learn more about these courses in the ‘How to Central’ event and links to access the training will be emailed to you directly. Both courses are mandatory for students to complete, and we strongly suggest that you use this timeslot to complete the training prior to commencing your studies.

International Students: Welcome Event
As well as attending the Campus Card Collection and Campus Orientation Tour event where visa documents will be checked earlier in the week (please see relevant dates above), there will also be International Student-specific welcome events on Friday 29th September.
Introduction to Teaching, Learning and Assessment Cultures in UK Universities
This on campus welcome session provides some useful information around teaching, learning and assessment cultures in the UK universities as well as a brief introduction to some key concepts such as critical thinking and academic writing which you will come across quite often during your time at Central. The purpose of this session is to offer you a snapshot of what it is like to study and be a student with us at Central.
This event will also include a brief welcome from Mark Hunter, our Vice Principal (Curriculum & Students).

International Students: Acclimatisation - Chill out, Network and Music session
Join us in this informal session on campus where you will have the opportunity to meet other international students and some staff members for an extended welcome, networking opportunity, some music selection based on your preference as well as a further discussion around culture, belonging and acclimatisation facilitated by Riadh Ghemmour.
