As part of Central’s Big Give Christmas Challenge, we’re speaking to students who have received Scholarships and Bursaries whilst studying at Central, to showcase the impact that these have on them, and their future careers.

Bea Hart is a BA (Hons) Theatre Practice - Stage Management and Technical Theatre student, and she took the time to speak with us about her current projects, and why it’s so crucial to support emerging talent.

What made you choose to study at Central?

The reputation of the course was excellent and when I looked around and thought that there were a great range of facilities, and the staff were very friendly!

What have you enjoyed most about the course?

I have enjoyed visiting lots of different productions and exhibitions to help contextualize my work. Currently, I am really enjoying the Fantasy Collaborators project, which involves working with people from other courses to create an outdoor installation inspired by artists that we have studied. It is a great opportunity to be really creative and work within a production team structure.

You’ve received a Scholarship to study on your course, what impact has this had on you and your studies?

It has allowed me to spend more time seeing productions and experience a wide variety of live performances as I don’t have to spend all my free time working. It has also allowed me the space to de-stress and have more downtime, which has been helpful for my mental health.

What would you say to those thinking of donating funds for Scholarships or Bursaries for Central’s students?

Theatre has historically been a very elitist industry, so by donating money to current or prospective students, you will allow more disadvantaged students to study the thing they love, which over time should help to diversify the industry as a whole and create an inclusive space.

What do you wish to do with the skills your training is giving you in the future?

I hope to gain the skills required to allow me to work as a freelance stage manager. I also hope that I will be able to work and network with industry professionals whilst studying on the course to create useful connections for the future.

What advice do you have for those hoping to follow in your footsteps?

Try to fully involve yourself in everything that is thrown at you. Central has a great range of resources and excellent staff, so make the most of your time there.

Central’s Big Give Christmas Challenge will raise vital funds for Scholarships and Bursaries to support our students.
