We caught up with Central alumni Kamari Romeo to see what he has been getting up to after graduating from both Drama, Applied Theatre and Education (DATE), BA (2013) and Creative Producing, MA (2019).

What would you like to tell us about today?

My role as Producer/Artistic Director at Humblebee Creative.

How did you get involved with Humblebee Creative?

I founded Humblebee halfway through my Creative Producing, MA at Central.

What made you want to get involved?

I wanted to make a change in the industry offering fresh perspectives of marginalised voices. My social enterprise creates art that pollinates conversation, through immersive and transformative experiences. Humblebee Creative exists at the intersection of arts, health and education: specialising in Applied Theatre, Film, Literature, Research and Archiving.

We also provide creative services in mental health intervention and rehabilitation. Humblebee Creative’s core values are to embrace, listen, advocate, and care for minorities within our communities. We seek to amplify marginalised voices in London and the UK and explore our social responsibility together and generate new ideas for a more inclusive society.

Are you working on anything else that you would like to share?

I’m working on a new creative curriculum for children and families, learning about Black history through factual entertainment with Black History School. We make space for topical conversations with children, giving them the time and space to explore discussions in a pressure-free environment.

What has surprised you most about your experience?

How generous people have been despite the difficult year for everyone.

What has been the biggest challenge that you have overcome while working on this?

Tier 5 happening 2 weeks before my project filming dates.

Is this what you had planned to do after graduation?

It is everything I dreamed and more!

What advice would you have for anyone looking to follow in your footsteps?

Delegate when things get busy, it is not healthy to do things on your own all the time!

Kamari is also the Project Manager on the StART Entrepreneurship Project - a collaboration between the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (RCSSD) and University of the Arts London (UAL) to support the professional development of students within the creative arts.
