On 13 August 2019, The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama hosted its annual Central in Edinburgh party at the Scottish Arts Club.  This event celebrates the involvement of its staff, students and alumni in productions running at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and this year the School also took the opportunity to confer Honorary Fellowship on William Burdett-Coutts.

On 31 July, Costume Construction student Yiran Duan led a special making session at Central to share her practice in the traditional Bai methods of stich resistant tie-dying.

From July 18 – 20 2019, Central hosted Professor Anne Bogart for her Leverhulme Conference entitled “Training for the Future: Actor Training and Director Pedagogy for the 21st Century”.  The conference concluded Professor Bogart’s year-long Visiting Professorship at Central and considered contemporary actor training since Stanislavsky, interrogating whether the notion of a comprehensive, methodological system still exists.

Throughout the Spring term, 2nd year students on Central’s Drama, Applied Theatre and Education course worked with over 4,200 participants across the UK and beyond as a part of their Collaborative Outreach projects.

Nominations for the 71st annual Primetime Emmy Awards, which celebrate excellence within the television industry, have been announced and Central is delighted to congratulate our many alumni recognised this year.

From 1 – 4 July, Central hosted the 2019 Brink Festival, “At The Risk Of…” featuring nine events disrupting preconceptions of performance, and performed by emerging practitioners from around the world.

ACAS Fest

From Wednesday 3 to Saturday 6 July, residents of all ages in Bexley are invited to attend a series of activities and events in Bexleyheath Broadway celebrating the completion of Performing Places Bexley, a collaborative arts project between Central, the London Borough of Bexley, Emergency Exit Arts and local residents which has focused on improving community cohesion.

Over the past year, Central’s Dr Nicola Abraham has been working in collaboration with Dr Lotty Lance, Head Dementia Nurse Jo James and her team at Imperial Hospital Trust on an Intergenerational Project involving five primary schools and two hospitals in London.
