International Research

Central’s international focus is firmly embedded within our Academic Strategy, which commits to developing practitioners and researchers who shape the future of theatre and performance across the UK and beyond.

Our strategies for global partnership development can be categorized into different approaches but all are governed by a commitment to ethical partnerships which forge the development of the subject specialism, research and innovation.  Staff are actively involved in international research and knowledge exchange projects with partners throughout Europe as well as Argentina, Australia, Chile, India, Kenya, Peru, South Africa, the Philippines, and the USA, to name just a few. Further details on projects can be found on our Current Research Projects pages.

Our culture acknowledges the importance of publishing in languages other than English. Our recognition of the position of English as a global language involves respect for the distinctive shapes and forms English can take across different traditions, cultural contexts and translation. Staff at Central work across more than fourteen languages.

For academics, inter-institutional arrangements are developed from mutual interest and collaboration and are driven by innovation and knowledge exchange.  In addition, formal arrangements emerge through new research projects based upon the innovative and cross-sector dialogue to bring about the generation of new knowledge.
