Biography

Rebeca Pereira is a movement director, teacher, researcher and performer who embodies an eclectic heritage of influences in her movement practice. Her early training was in sports and dance. However, over the years, she has studied various other disciplines to enrich her movement vocabulary, such as gymnastics, contemporary dance, contact improv, martial arts, fight sports, yoga, climbing, surfing and animal flow.

Rebeca conceives movement as an authentic way to tell stories and a powerful tool to create bonds, develop empathy and spark relational creativity between people. Stanislavski’s physical actions, Laban’s Technique and Animal Studies are the tools she draws upon for working with actors — focusing on creating collaborative playful, rhythmic spaces while encouraging and celebrating the uniqueness of the actors and/or ensembles. Rebeca’s movement approach has been influenced by Gerzy Grotowski’s Theatre Laboratory, Eugenio Barba’s Theatrical Anthropology, and Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed.

Her current movement research interests are The Theory of Enkinaesthesia and biological agency by Susan Stuart. Social Cognitive Neuroscience (M. Lieberman’s) The production of Social Space “Space is made by people” by Henry Lefebvre.
