Yamin Choudury is the Joint Assistant Director of Culture & Creativity for the London Borough of Haringey, and Joint CEO & Artistic Director at Hackney Empire. His career has focused on creating platforms, pipelines and roadmaps for diverse, representative, and emerging stories, ideas, artists, audiences and participants.
Yamin’s lived experience and unconventional journey into the arts has made access the foundation of his creative practice. Working with others, to develop a more open and engaging cultural sector and ensuring that the transformative power of storytelling – to affect how we feel about ourselves, our societies, and our environments – can genuinely be experienced by all.
Since the beginning of 2018, Yamin has been jointly responsible for revolutionising Hackney Empire as a landmark institution and community center; developing new relationships and audiences; and helping to lead an unprecedented financial and critical turnaround for the organisation. While the young people’s programme that he built at Hackney Empire, remains acknowledged as one of the most significant, transformative and powerful programmes in the Capital.
Having worked internationally in the performing arts, media, and commercial music industry, Yamin is a recognised and respected leader, practitioner, and producer.
