Stephen Hudson

MA, BA
Job title
Course Leader, MA Music Theatre

Profile

I am an actor trainer, director and actor with 25 years experience within the industry. I was trained as an actor at Drama Centre London, led by Christopher Fettes and Yat Malmgren, and by Gennadi Bogdanov at the International Biomechanics institute in Perugia. My practice is rooted in a psycho-physical approach through which the actor can develop their trust in impulse-led, sub-conscious response alongside the requirements of any given text. The primary methodological influences in my work are Stanislavsky, Viewpoints, Meyerhold, Laban & Demidov. Other practitioners of note under whom I have trained include Sharon-Marie Carnicke, Bella Merlin, Andrei Malev-Babel.

In 2011 I completed my Masters in Actor Training & Coaching at Central.

I have taught widely at Central outside of my current role Course Leader on MA Music Theatre, including on the MA Acting Contemporary and Classical courses, MA Acting for Screen, BA Acting and BA Acting - Collaborative & Devised, MA Actor Training & Coaching.

In addition to my work at Central I have been Course Leader of MA Acting at ArtsEd, and have worked at many other institutions, substantially at Mountview, Drama Centre London, East 15, Italia Conti.

I was one of the founding directors, with Lisa Peck, of The Brighton Laboratory, a devising theatre company set up to offer ongoing professional development alongside creating new work.
