Profile

Alex trained as an actor at the University of Northampton and then worked in a variety of jobs before completing his Masters in ‘Actor Training and Coaching’ at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. During the course Alex developed an interest in Clowning and playfulness and how these aspects might be used when working with actors and in relation to actor training. This led to him being one of the speakers at Centrals 2019 Ted X talks discussing how clowning could be used in traditional actor training.

Since graduating, Alex has worked in a variety of institutions such as Performance Preparation Academy in Guildford, the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and University of Northampton. In addition to this he has directed several shows including several Shakespeare plays, Gorkys ‘The Lower Depths’ and a devised clown horror based on Vincent’s Prices ‘House on Haunted Hill’.

Alex considers his approach playful with an emphasis on working with the actors unique qualities to create a more inclusive classroom. He hopes to explore these qualities further, as he is currently applying for a PHD which would allow him to explore ‘What elements of Tabletop gaming could be used to create a more inclusive environment in actor training’.
