Acting Through Song

Take a deep and detailed dive into all the corners of the Acting Through Song toolkit. Too often to taken for granted and misapplied, this rich and complex actor’s challenge deserves fulsome and rigorous attention.

This course will provide a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of Acting Through Song, offering the chance to build your repertoire and skill level with in-class coaching sessions.

Course Content
  • Rehearse and develop songs for both performative and audition situation.
  • Rigorously explore form, function and purpose of song within theatre.
  • Investigate the rich, exciting relationship between text and music.
  • Unpack and identify practical understanding of style, structure and delivery.
  • Analyse and experiment with the bridging of text and song.
  • Build a practical toolkit of technique, exercise and understanding in the rehearsal of material.
  • Practically explore the intrinsic crossover between sung text and poetic forms.
  • Probe and embrace the difference and distance between audition and performance practice.

This course is ideally suited to those with some previous actor training or experience.

Days Various. The course consists of 16 sessions in total and is delivered twice a week for 8 weeks.

AgeThe minimum age is 18 on the first day of the course. There is no upper age limit.

Course DeliveryAll of the Evening Courses take place onsite at our Swiss Cottage campus in London. 
International students

We welcome International Students to our courses, however please ensure you are on the correct visa.

As our Evening Courses are classed as part-time, non-accredited short courses they are not eligible for a Tier 4 Student Visa however you may be eligible for a Short Term Study Visa.

Language requirementsApplicants must be confident speaking and reading English to a conversational level (IELTS score of 7.0 or equivalent). You may be expected to read texts/scripts that have advanced vocabulary.
AttendanceDue to the structure and the collaborative nature of the courses, full attendance is requested.
RefundsWe are able to offer a full refund up until 14 days before the course begins. After this, the course will become fully non-refundable.
Cancellations Central reserves the right to cancel this course if we do not meet the minimum number of participants. In this instance, a full refund will be made to you. We are unable to refund any other costs you may have incurred.

Rohan Tickell

An alumnus of Royal Central, Rohan most recently headed the Acting Department on ArtsEd’s flagship Musical Theatre course. Prior to that he taught at many of the UK’s top drama schools in tandem with a thriving acting career in theatres across the West End, Europe, Asia and his homeland of Australia playing lead roles in a raft of major Musical Theatre productions.
