I am a theatre maker, director and Artistic Director of the bold & saucy theatre company, Associate of Kilter Theatre and Course Leader of the Contemporary strand on Central’s MA Acting.
I read Drama at Loughborough University, worked as an actor for three years and then took an MA in Theatre Arts at Goldsmiths College, University of London. On finishing the course I founded bold & saucy, which I have run for over 20 years. During that time I have produced, devised and directed 20+ shows with the company – everything from classical work to commissioning new writing. As a freelance director I have worked in the UK and abroad, highlights include directing projects for the British Council in New Zealand, researching and running workshops with the National Theatre of Greenland and directing new writing at Shakespeare’s Globe in London. I also run the FH Space where bold and saucy is based, offering rehearsal space, workshops and classes; it is part of Havelock Walk, a unique community of artists ‘live/work‘ studios in South London.
I came to Central in 2005 for four weeks as a Visiting Lecturer and never left, becoming a permanent member of staff in 2011 and course leader in 2014. As well as teaching acting, I also direct MA Acting student productions, often collaborating with writers, commissioning and developing new plays, which is a distinctive feature of this course. Most recently, A Serious Case of the Fuckits by Anna Jordan. Other student productions include: Volpone, Napoli Milionaria, In Extremis and Edward Bond’s Lear.
I have also taught actors how to teach acting on Central’s MA Actor Training and Coaching course.
