Advice for the Central community

You will have seen ongoing news coverage relating to an outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) which is being monitored by The World Health Organization, Public Health England (PHE) and international partner organisations.

This is a developing situation and one which we are continuously monitoring.  We are committed to providing the most up-to-date advice and guidance to members of our wider Central community - including staff and students - and will continue to communicate regularly through our usual channels (e.g. social media, email, newsletters, staff and student intranet pages, etc.).

For the most up-to-date information on Central’s response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus), please visit our dedicated webpage.

Update:

As of the close of play Friday 20 March, all on-site physical campus access is now suspended until further notice.  Only essential contractors and departmental staff who will have been explicitly requested to come in will be able to access the building.

This is in line with advice from Public Health England and the UK Government in order to protect our community and help with public efforts to stop the spread of the virus.

  • We will be looking to move as much of our activity online as is practical and possible and will continue to be in regular contact with staff and students regarding facilitation of these activities.  These include face-to-face tuition, training, productions, showcases and exhibitions, and recruitment and outreach activities (including those planned for delivery off-site).
  • We are working as a matter of priority to move all essential functions on-line and enable our staff and students to continue working and learning remotely as much as possible.  We would ask for your patience and understanding as we work rapidly to adjust to these extraordinary circumstances.  We will continue to update our community regularly.
  • Staff and Students can continue to access many resources remotely, including IT, electronic Library materials and online learning – which is being developed on a course specific basis by academic and support teams. Additional support services will continue to be accessible remotely by phone, email and other electronic means.  Further information can be found on MyCentral. Finally, with the safety and wellbeing of both our applicants and those within the Central community being our priority, we have decided to suspend all in-person audition and interview activity with immediate effect.  This means that:
    • Instead of attending a live audition, we will be asking applicants to submit a recorded audition online (performance courses) or to complete interviews online.
    • Details on the specifics for each course and process will be provided to you by the end of the week.
    • We ask that you please refrain from telephoning or emailing with questions as we finalise the details.  We will be in touch as soon as these are confirmed.

This is an extraordinarily challenging time, and we will all have to work together in a creative, collaborative and different way to find solutions to the severe constraints placed on us by the global pandemic.  We appreciate that members of our community will be anxious; please do look out for one another.  We must all be mindful of our civic responsibility to remain calm and generous whilst we all do our best to get through this.
