Central is delighted to announce that its Technical & Production team has recently signed up as a Supporter of Backstage Niche.

The membership provides Central with access to their diverse network of Freelancers, working across various disciplines, from Stage Management to Sound to Set Design.

Backstage Niche are an organisation that champions freelancers from a Global Majority background who work in technical and backstage theatre, opening up the industry to new entrants from currently underrepresented areas. As well as providing training and advice, Backstage Niche regularly produce workshops and panel talks for schools and communities.

On the partnership, David Ripley, Head of Technical and Production at Central, said:

We are very much looking forward to working with Backstage Niche on the common goal of diversifying the industry. Central engages many freelancers a year on our Public Productions and we look forward to including more of our colleagues from the Global Majority in these projects.”

Having initially collaborated on a successful, online programme in Summer 2021 as part of Central’s outreach activities, Central’s membership to Backstage Niche represents a deepening of the ongoing partnership between the two organisations. The membership further signifies Central’s support towards Backstage Niche’s future outreach work as well as their aim to “encourage the younger generation from various Global backgrounds to consider the exciting possibilities of a career in backstage theatre.”
