Central Alumni Win at the 2020 BAFTA Television Awards

On Friday 31 July, BAFTA announced the winners of this year’s Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards, recognising the very best programmes and performances of 2019. We are extremely proud to be able to share and celebrate news that Central alumni won in two of the four acting categories.

Alumna Naomi Ackie (BA (Hons) Acting - CDT 2012), a first-time BAFTA nominee, won Best Supporting Actress for her performance in dark comedy drama, The End of the F***kng World, which also picked up an award for Best Drama Series. In addition to this role, last year Naomi played newcomer to the Star Wars universe, Jannah, in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Alumnus Jared Harris (Stage 1988) won Best Leading Actor for his performance starring in acclaimed drama, Chernobyl, telling the story of the nuclear disaster at the Ukraine plant on 26 April 1986, which also won in the category of Best Mini-Series, and picked up seven awards at this year’s British Academy Television Craft Awards.
