Congratulations to Central BA (Hons) Acting students Abdelaziz Sanusi and Chantelle Amon who have been each awarded a 2023 Laurence Olivier Bursary from the Society of London Theatre (SOLT).

Now in their 36th year, the Bursaries were established by SOLT in 1987 to mark Central graduate Laurence Olivier’s 80th birthday. Their purpose is to provide financial support for exceptional students entering their final year of drama school.

Nominees are put forward by drama schools across the UK, are auditioned on a West End Stage and are interviewed by a panel of theatre industry professionals led by West End producer and Chair of the Laurence Olivier Bursaries Committee, Lee Menzies. This year’s auditions took place in June at the St Martin’s Theatre.

Thanks to contributions from SOLT and the generosity of key donators - The Estate of Sir Peter and Lady Saunders, The Clothworkers’ Foundation, The Behrens Foundation, Barry Burnett and The Casting Directors’ Guild - a total of £79,000 has been distributed amongst this year’s 17 Bursary recipients.

Central BA (Hons) Acting student Abdelaziz Sanusi was awarded The Clothworkers’ Laurence Olivier Bursary, given in conjunction with the Laurence Olivier Bursary and donated by The Clothworkers’ Foundation.

Central BA (Hons) Acting student Chantelle Amon was awarded the Laurence Olivier & Casting Directors’ Guild Bursary, donated by the Society of London Theatre with an additional donation from the Casting Directors’ Guild.

Huge congratulations to all of this year’s Laurence Olivier Bursary recipients!
