Susanna is interested in how movement tells stories by writing through space. Growing up, she trained and performed in acting, singing and dance. At university Susanna studied English and Drama, gravitating towards methods of devising, physical theatre and movement modules. She also developed an interest in scenography, looking at aspects of space and the movement of the performer and audience in space and time.
After her BA, Susanna continued to explore performance processes where movement and the body are central. At Dance Research Studio, under the mentorship of Jacky Lansley, she trained in interdisciplinary performance practices and devised and performed in site-specific projects. She now enjoys teaching and performing with Candoco Dance Company who offer an inclusive creative environment for disabled and non disabled artists.
This interest in inclusive practices is something she explored in her MFA SIP and she worked on targeted projects with actors from diverse age groups, socio economic backgrounds and actors with autistic spectrum disorders, for the Lyric Hammersmith, NYT and Turtle Key Arts.
She has now taught actor movement on the MA Advanced Theatre Practice students at Central and the BA Dance Theatre at the London Studio Centre. The experience fuels her interest in how she can facilitate the actor or student in an experience of self-discovery, confidence and ownership in their movement.
Susanna is also movement director for ByJove Theatre Company who specialise in reinvigorating classical texts, myths and legends to explore contemporary issues.
