Sophie de Vries is originally from the Netherlands. When growing up in Amsterdam she spent a lot of her free time undertaking physical activities such as ballet, other dance styles and speed skating. As a young girl she developed a love for art and joined a youth theatre group. This is where her love for the performing arts started.
In 2010 she graduated from the “Academie voor Theater en Dans” in Amsterdam as a multidisciplinary theatre maker and teacher. After graduating she worked as a theatre maker and teacher and became specialized in theatre projects with and for young people. In her work she developed a passion for working with movement and this passion developed when she started collaborating with dance teacher and choreographer Hanke Sjamsoedin.
In 2012 she moved to London and started working as an assistant and “out side eye” for professional dance artists. She also started working as a Co Director on a professional production. Because of her love for movement and moving bodies in space, she decided to pursue her masters in Movement Directing and Teaching. In her work as a movement director she finds it extremely important to involve the actors in the process of developing their work. Another important aspect of her work is the use of imagery and visuals and her love for scenography.
