Teaching

Whilst working at The Freedom Theatre School from 2008 to 2017, I was leading a team of practitioners responsible for designing and implementing the original curricula of the three year actor training course in Acting, Devising and Cultural Resistance, as well as teaching Movement, Devising and Improvisation within the course.

I have taught Lecoq based work in several Acting Courses in Colleges and Vocational schools like: Alkasabah Theatre Academy (2009-2012), Haifa Arab University (2014), Alquds Bard College (2016).

Working with Di Trevis in her workshops I have taught Embodied Rhetorics for actors working with Shakespeare and Brecht scenes.

I co-designed and co-taught the International Freedom Theatre Workshop in 2015 and 2016 along with artistic director Nabil Alraee done at The Freedom Theatre in Palestine and Barraca Theatre in Portugal as an intensive one week process for artists to connect and travel through their personal, social and political material through myth and archetypical devices. The workshop would result in a piece of collective creation that was presented to the audience in Jenin and it was created from the need of providing embodied lectures on Cultural Resistance through art in the context of The Freedom Theatre's work.

Profile

I trained as an actor in Portugal, I moved to Paris to train at L'école Jacques Lecoq and Philippe Gaulier, pursuing a theatre-making career moved by the question of “what is theatre for?” as an actor in devised processes, director and producer in several countries. Arriving to Palestine’s The Freedom Theatre in 2008, I became part of the founding of its professional three-year actor training program, leading and designing its original curriculum as well as teaching movement and improvisation. As a teacher, I'm passionate about how actors process and understand humanity in order to express it.

As director, movement director and dramaturg for The Freedom Theatre’s professional productions, my work focuses on the physicalization of meaning through a metaphoric approach led by creativity, imagination and experimentation. Being part of the team responsible for the artistic direction of The Freedom Theatre, I have been leading theatre practice as research in resisting injustice through story-telling, co-authoring two publications about the work of Cultural Resistance through Theatre.

I'm also part of the International company Theatre Hotel Courage, based in Amsterdam, telling stories of survival through mask work.
