Laura Pirret

Job title

Students' Union Vice President

Profile

I initially trained as an actor at East 15 Acting School.

Recently, however, I graduated from the University of Winchester with a BA (Hons) in Vocal & Choral studies and am currently training on the MA Voice Studies course at Central.

Whilst completing my degree I had many opportunities including the chance to study in Sweden at SADA, devising work around different landscapes and exploring how that could communicate with a community, and studying Musical Theatre at Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia, USA.

I have a background in working with children having working in a Primary school and set up and ran a community Youth Theatre project in partnership with Winchester Student Hub. This project involved giving children of the community free creative arts workshops in drama, voice and dance and worked specifically to develop skills and requirements in workshop leaders to encourage children with Special Educational Needs.

I have also performed as a vocalist performing in Verity Standen's Arts Council funded project HUG in Eastleigh and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2015, and performed as a choral back-up singer for Gene Simmons at Goodwood's Need for Speed Festival.

Currently, I am working for a charity that aims to assist those who have had close links to the criminal justice system, and to prevent reoffending cases.

Having been part of a Student Union team at Winchester as the Mature and Part-time Students Officer, I'm enjoying my time being part of another enthusiastic and engaging Student Union team as their Vice President: Postgraduate.
