A Chorus Line examines one day in the lives of a group of performers, as they audition for a job in the chorus line of a Broadway musical. The musical opened Off Broadway at The Public Theatre in New York, and within the year (1975) it had transferred to the Schubert Theatre where it ran for 6,137 performances, making it the longest-running production in Broadway history, until it was overtaken by Cats in 1997.
The production, directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett, was an unprecedented box office and critical success and won nine Tony Awards, in addition to the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
