Course Overview

In order to participate in this course, you will have usually completed Acting - An Introduction first, or have some equivalent training.

Through this course you will develop an understanding of the various demands of text from different genres and periods, ranging from the 19th Century through to contemporary writing. You will work on text analysis skills in order to determine the world of the play, the action and the character arc, and thus make effective performance choices. Through working with various texts you will develop compelling theatrical characters through the body, as well as via textual investigation, and will gain skills in rehearsal, stagecraft, confidence in performing to an audience and working effectively within an ensemble. You will also work on developing an awareness of psychophysical tension habits and learn how to free them in order to be more present and widen creative expression through the body and imagination.

After this course, you may wish to consider applying for Central’s Acting - Text 2, or move on to a new area of actor training such as Voice for Performance - An Introduction.
