I studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and developed as a career as a soloist, repetiteur, and orchestral and chamber musician, and as a conductor, orchestrator and musical director in theatre.
During a long association with the Haymarket Theatre in Leicester, I established a reputation as an advocate of the works of Stephen Sondheim. In additional to many regional, West End and international theatre credits, I orchestrated and conducted the world and Broadway premieres of The Pirate Queen and conducted the European premiere of Adam Guettel's The Light In The Piazza. Most recently, I was musical director for the award-nominated production of Sondheim's Company at the Capitol Theatre, Manchester, and musical supervisor and orchestrator of the 2105/16 Royal Exchange Theatre production of Into The Woods.
Special areas of interest include theatre orchestration and sacred renaissance choral music.
Director of Music and Curator of Summer 2018 concert series at St Anne's, Kew.
