Studio 1 and 2 memory scattering event

In front of a small invited audience, Professor Sally Mackey scattered paper memories of Studios 1 and 2 onto their former location, the structural foundations of the new North Block building.

The memories were gathered over the course of nearly 10 years as staff, students and alumni from courses housed in the Studios were asked to submit their written recollections and memories of the building on pieces of paper.

Nearly a decade of memory gathering culminated in July of 2016, when, in preparation for its new North Block development, Central took the opportunity – led by Professor Sally Mackey – to say a fond farewell to its much loved Studios 1 and 2.

Many alumni, current students and staff joined in this summer celebration of what Studios 1 and 2 had meant to them.  Both the internal and external walls of the studios were decorated with personalised paintings, commemorative artwork and spray painted graffiti.

On 12 July 2017, Professor Mackey returned to the former site of Studios 1 and 2 – now the excavated basement for the School’s new North Block.  In front of a small invited audience, a decade of paper memories were scattered onto the structural foundations of the new building, creating an indelible memory of place and ensuring that Central’s future will continue to grow on the strong foundations of its past.
