Central is pleased to announce that Dr Simon Donger has been nominated for a Golden Mask Award for his lighting and projection work on “Hero of our Time” at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.

Aside from being the Course Leader for Central’s Scenography MA/MFA and a Lecturer in Performance Arts & Scenography, Dr Donger also works as a stage designer, director and curator. He was involved with two productions this past season at the Bolshoi Theatre and for which he designed and implemented lighting and interactive projections.

Dr Donger was also a key contributor to the most recent edition of form magazine - form 262 - which is focused on Scenography. His article for form 262, “Lebendiges Licht – Theatre Space” expands on this process at the Bolshoi. Additionally, he was interviewed for form online and this interview runs alongside video clips showing his design work for the ballet “Hero of Our Time”, for which he has been nominated for the Golden Mask Award for Lighting for Musical Theatre.

Golden Mask is the National Theatre Award established in 1993 by the Theatre Union of Russian Federation. The Golden Mask Award is the most prestigious award that is given to productions in all genres of theatre art: drama, opera, ballet, modern dance, operetta, musical and puppet theatre. Winners of the Golden Mask will be announced at the Awards Ceremony, which will be held on April 18 2016 at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theatre.
