Complete University Guide Rankings 2018

The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama has been ranked as the top drama school in the UK by the Complete University Guide for 2018.

Pictured above: musical ‘Grand Hotel’ (2017) featured Acting: Musical Theatre, BA students with costume, scenic art & construction, stage, technical & production management, lighting and sound from Theatre Practice, BA students.

The Arts, Drama & Music League Table, in which Central ranks 3rd overall, provides rankings of the specialist colleges and conservatoires that do not appear in the main University League Table.

This news continues a bright year for Central in which work commenced on its multimillion pound North Block development, alumni successes in the Olivier, Golden Globe and WhatsOnStage awards, and a host of other awards and nominations: Central projects were shortlisted for two Guardian University Awards, a Times Higher Education Award, a Hearts for the Arts Award for Best Local Authority Arts Project, and won the SCUDD (The Standing Conference of University Drama Departments) David Bradby award. Additionally, Central appointed its first ever Leverhulme Visiting Professor, and The Leverhulme Trust also provided major funding for undergraduate and postgraduate Applied Theatre student projects in summer 2017.

Dean of School, Ross Brown, commented, “This news is another welcome affirmation of our world leading staff and students who work intensively together to shape the future of theatre and performance.”

About the Complete University Guide tables

The league tables play a big part when choosing a university, and Complete University Guide rankings are based on a carefully formatted methodology using several criteria or ‘measures’. Five measures are used: Student Satisfaction, Research Quality, Research Intensity, Entry Standards and Graduate Prospects. Two years of Graduate Prospects data were aggregated to make the data more reliable.
