Students performing on stage

Highlights from our Music Theatre MA presents the best bits of our recent showcases and offers an insight into what you’ll be working towards throughout the year.

Stage Door - A New Musical (2017)

Based on the play by Edna Ferber and George S. Kaufman, and performed by Central’s MA Music Theatre students, Stage Door tells the story of several would-be actresses who live together in a boarding house at 158 West 58th Street in New York City.

Broadway composer, musical director and educator, Joshua Rosenblum and author and actor, Joanne Sydney Lessner were commissioned to adapt the classic American play Stage Door by Edna Ferber and George S. Kaufman in favour of the diverse artistic community of MA Music Theatre students at Central. Performed by MA Music Theatre students at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, 2017.

A Winter’s Tale (2016)

In this collaboration with the company Moving Stories, MA Music Theatre students present one of Shakespeare’s best-loved stories of jealousy, love and forgiveness. The large, multi-talented cast is framed by a unique onstage band, an especially composed score, colourful design and inventive staging. Performed by MA Music Theatre students at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, May 2016.

The Briefest Encounter - Flash Mob @ Kings Cross Station

This master’s level, conservatoire-style training provides the opportunity for music and theatre practitioners to develop performance techniques and creative skills and experience some of the diversity of music theatre forms.

Specialised pathway

MA Music Theatre is for performers, but we now offer a specialised pathway for composers and/ or musical directors who are also performers. Each case is taken individually and those interested will be invited to communicate directly with the Course Leader prior to audition.
