Somewhere in America. Today. A group of young dancers are coached to enter the first round of a national Dance Competition. This troupe have won Nationals before. Their aim is high and their ambition is fierce. But the performance space can be a war zone. And they become warriors.
The troupe learns about winning. And losing. About power. And shame. About dreaming. And being in the real world.
They do win the local heat. But at a cost.
The story explores the fine line between girlhood and womanhood. And how the adult was ever there, within the child.
DANCE NATION received its UK premiere at the Almeida Theatre, London in September 2018.
By arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. On behalf of Samuel French Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk
