Overview

Chigger Foot Boys is set in a rum bar by Kingston Harbour in 1914. Four young men pass the evening playing dominoes as the action flashes forward to Oxford, France, East Africa, Egypt and Italy to their involvement in the Great War. It focuses on the heroism and intellectual and emotional lives of the characters, while exploring the political and social realities of their lives and military service. Funny and heartbreaking by turns, it considers how the carnage of WWI contributed to widespread disillusionment and eventually the end of the British Empire.

By arrangement with Patricia Cumper.
