The second of two modular courses aimed at individuals who need to understand the basic principles of voice and its use in performance.
You will be expected to continue working on your voice and on the texts in your own time to support your learning.
Please note; by it's very nature, voice training involves a certain amount of physical activity and floor work. We are committed to being inclusive to people of all needs and abilities however, so do get in touch to discuss any concerns you may have around this. We can make sure exercises are adapted to individual needs.
Please note, we would only encourage students to apply for this course if they have completed Voice Fundamentals 1: Good Voice Use or have equivalent previous training and experience.
Also, please be aware that this is not an English language course for non-native English speakers. If you are interested in accent softening or confidence building in Spoken English you may be interested in our Summer School course in Clear Spoken English.
'The teacher not only gave feedback on voice, but also on acting, performance and public speaking. She also created a very safe and comfortable atmosphere to experiement in. I could really feel a difference in my voice from before the course.' - Yiu Ki Lee, summer 2018.
'There was a wonderful and open atmosphere which really brought the whole group together and encouraged a relaxed environment for the voice to be free and open. The course was very practical, which I enjoyed, with constant work on text to put the theory to use.' - Dana, summer 2018.

Do I have to audition/apply for Summer Short Course?
All of our Summer Short Courses are available on a first-come, first-served basis. No auditions, no need for a length application process and no need to submit a CV/resume – you just need to book! For further information on how to secure your place, please see the Booking section above.
Who is eligible for the concessionary fee?
Central offers a concessionary rate for some courses. You may be eligible if you can submit proof of being an EU citizen in receipt of benefits for unemployment and/or disability within the UK, along with your registration form.
Are your courses suitable for complete beginners?
Many of our courses are perfect for complete beginners. Please see the course information above for more details on the amount of experience required for your preferred course.
Can I pay in instalments?
Unfortunately not. We need to receive payment in full to confirm your place on the course.
How important is it that I’m available for every session?
Very important! Our courses give you the chance to experience conservatoire-style training and as such we take attendance and punctuality very seriously. All of our courses are collaborative in nature and if you’re missing from class it impacts on your fellow students’ learning, as well as your own.
Where does the course take place?
All of our summer short courses take place at our main, purpose built campus at Swiss Cottage. It’s in Zone 2, and right next to Swiss Cottage tube station. The Jubilee Line takes you into Central London within minutes.
Do you provide accommodation for Summer School students?
As a small, specialist institution we don’t have our own student accommodation for any course (including our main BA and MA programmes). However there’s plenty of accommodation available locally to suit all tastes and budgets, from 5 star hotels, to boutique youth hostels and lots of AirBnb properties.
Do I get a certificate?
As these are short, non-accredited courses, we don’t offer a certificate as standard. Provided that you have attended at least 85% of the course, we can supply a certificate of attendance on request, once the course has finished. Please email the Short Courses office to request the certificate, including the name you would like on the certificate and the address you would like the hard copy sent to. Please note that it may take up to 4 weeks for your certificate to reach you.
Can I take more than one course?
Absolutely! We often have students attend more than one summer short course, especially if they’re travelling from overseas.
I don’t know if I need a visa/which visa I need. Can you help?
Our general visa advice is above. Unfortunately, we’re not able to advise further as each student’s situation is different.
How are the classes structured?
All of our courses are interactive and participatory and we hope you’ll arrive ready to get stuck in. In common with our main courses, the summer short courses are all about experiential learning – you’ll be up on your feet in a rehearsal room rather than sat still reading a Powerpoint in a classroom.
Expect lots of drama games and exercises as well as working in pairs and trios to implement the new skills you’ll be learning.
Please be aware that by its nature, acting and voice training may be physical and mentally demanding, but highly rewarding.
Who will my tutor be?
All of our courses are run by professional actors, coaches and directors and as such it may not be possible to confirm the name of your tutor until just before the course begins. Rest assured that we only work with the best of the best – all of our tutors have a background in working as professional actors and directors as well as being highly experienced and much sought after teachers!
Will this course help me get a Spotlight pin?
Unfortunately not – at the present time, Spotlight does not accept part-time, non-accredited courses as a way to get a pin. If you already have a pin, however, you’ll be able to list that you took one of our courses under the Education section.
Can I pay online?
At the present time, we’re only able to accept payment over the phone by credit or debit card or cash in person at our reception. Please see the Booking section above for more details.
I can no longer attend – can I get a refund?
You can receive a refund up until 2 weeks before a course begins by contacting the Short Courses office. A 15% administration fee will be applied unless you request the refund within two weeks of the date that you made the booking.
Within two weeks of the course beginning we’re unable to offer any refunds at all.
It is not possible to defer places on the Summer Short Courses.
I have more questions – who can I contact?
If you’ve not found the answer to your question here, please get in touch with our Short Courses team who will be happy to help you.
If you are from the EU/EEA/Switzerland you don't currently need a visa to study in the UK however this is subject to change due to Britain's planned withdrawal from the EU. We advise all appicants to check the UK Visas and Information website for the most up-to-date information and guidance on the visa application procedure.
If you are not from an EU or EEA country or Switzerland, you will need to obtain a Visa prior to entry to the UK (if you are a visa national) or upon entry to the UK (if you are a non-visa national).
It is each student's responsibility to have the right documentation for study when they arrive at Central. If you do not have a valid visa you are not able to study at Central.
