History of the Pivot Club

History of the Pivot Club

The Pivot Club was first launched in the early 1900s with the aim of raising money to support talented students without financial means. Central’s founder, Elsie Fogerty, was its first President and early members, including Central alumni Sir Laurence Olivier and Dame Peggy Ashcroft, ‘pivoted’ around her.

The original Club was disbanded at the outbreak of World War II but in 2011, in light of major changes in government funding, it was relaunched to continue with its mission.
