On Tuesday 3 March, nominations for the 2020 Olivier Awards were announced. Widely acknowledged as one of British theatre's most prestigious awards, these nominations demonstrate the range of productions, talent and enterprise showcased on our stages over the past year.
From 22 – 29 February, Central’s Acting Collaborative and Devised Theatre students working alongside students from the Theatre Practice course, and in collaboration with Complicité Creative Learning, present a special studio season at Theatre Peckham.
From 12 – 13 February, Central staff were pleased to represent the School at the Taut Danning Student Fair in Oslo Central.
On Thursday 6 February, Central’s MA/ MFA Creative Producing students hosted a special event Finding a New Centre: Theatre Production, Archives and the Magic of the Margins in collaboration with Decolonising the Archive and curated by Connie Bell. The evening featured a dramatic provocation and discussion with actors, writers, directors and producers from Black theatre collective African Tales From The Hip.
On Friday 24 January, Central’s Postgraduate Research Community presented their annual Intersections Conference to examine the landscape of higher education and the prospects and problems facing ‘early career’ theatre and performance researchers.
On Friday 24 January, Central opened the doors to its Embassy Theatre to host guests and industry partners for the 2020 New Technologies Showcase. The annual event is run by the Association of Lighting Designers together with White Light Ltd and provides top industry professionals with an opportunity to explore and compare the latest lighting technology available on the market.
Congratulations to Professor Sally Mackey whose work on Performing Places Bexley, a collaborative arts project between Central, the London Borough of Bexley, Emergency Exit Arts and local residents has been nominated for a Hearts for the Arts Award in the category of Best Arts Project – Community Cohesion!
On Thursday 9 January, Central and Digital Theatre+ hosted an exclusive webinar interview between Professor Geoffrey Colman and Professor Anne Bogart.
In December, Central hosted a special premiere screening of Cymbeline in the Embassy Theatre. Supported by Central and Illuminations Media, the screening provided audiences with an unparalleled opportunity to see two versions of scenes from Shakespeare’s Cymbeline consecutively in the Embassy Theatre.
