Throughout the Summer term the student, staff and alumni teams that collaborate to deliver Central’s Outreach programme to young people across the country have continued to deliver their work digitally in response to the ongoing restrictions brought about as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In May, Central hosted Intersections, its annual postgraduate research conference.  The student-led Intersections 2021: Border-Crossings event was organised by Central PhD candidates Nadine Deller and Paul Edwards.

From 21 – 28 June Central is once again partnering with the NHS to present the week-long Student Knowledge Exchange Project Festival, celebrating student and staff learning, insights and achievements from the Student Knowledge Exchange project between Central and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

In June, Central student Shannon Theumer took part in a unique interview with the award-winning French novelist, playwright and director Florian Zeller as a part of the press junket for his BAFTA and Academy Award-winning film The Father.

During the week of 14 June Central’s Dr Ella Parry-Davies, a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at Central, will take part in the British Academy’s annual Summer Showcase an exciting combination of free online talks, performances, demonstrations and activities exploring research into subjects ranging from early modern fortune-telling to the hidden histories of British hip–hop.

On Sunday 16 May Central’s Keep Creating Gala, featuring appearances from alumni including Riz Ahmed, Dame Judi Dench, Sonia Friedman, Michael Grandage, Jason Isaacs, Rebecca Lenkiewicz, Toby Olié, Sir Tony Robinson, Catherine Tate and incoming Principal Josette Bushell-Mingo, raised over £33,000 to support Central students impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Central students, alumni and well-known faces join together to present the virtual Keep Creating Gala, an online celebration showcasing talent from across the Central community and in support of Bursaries for current students.

On the evening of Wednesday 14 April, we were delighted to have Central alumna Zoë Wanamaker join us for a special online event for our Class of 2020 and 2021, as part of our programme of support for emerging graduates.

Central is excited to announce the launch of the auralia.space website, the digital home for researcher Duška Radosavljević’s project Aural/Oral Dramaturgies: Post-Verbatim, Amplified Storytelling and Gig Theatre in the Digital Age.

Congratulations to Central PhD candidate Gabriel Vivas-Martínez, who has been awarded a Civic Scholar Award by the Institute for Community Studies.
