How to Apply to Undergraduate Degree Courses

All applications must be made online via the UK’s nationwide Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). The UCAS code for Central School of Speech & Drama is C35 and individual course codes are listed on the course pages. Please ensure that you use the correct coding for your chosen course and that for BA (Hons) Acting you clearly specify in the further details/choices section of the UCAS application which strand option you wish to follow. You do not need a campus code for applications to Central

When to apply

UCAS will start receiving applications from 1 September 2011 for courses starting in October 2012. Central strongly advises you to submit your application as early as possible and before the 15 January 2012 UCAS deadline. You must apply by this date to receive equal consideration. Applications received by UCAS after this date are classed as late. We will try to give careful consideration to applications received after this date, but this may not always be possible, particularly for very popular courses.

Accreditation of Prior Learning

Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) is a process that can, exceptionally, allow a student to join a course at an advanced stage and be given ‘credit’ for the section(s) of the course s/he has missed. The student will be deemed to have passed in the missing elements and, if necessary, a mark will be allocated to represent the mark that it is judged that the student might have achieved had s/he taken the assessments. The first stage in making an application for APL is by making a formal application for the course (i.e. through UCAS or through direct postgraduate application).

What happens next

When we receive your application from UCAS, the relevant Admissions Tutor at Central will look carefully at the information you have given in your personal statement, your academic records and references and will then decide whether to take your application further.

Entry to Central is competitive and we are not able to offer an audition/interview, or a place, to everyone who applies. As our initial selection decision is based on the information contained in the application form, it is important to complete the form with great care. We reserve the right to withdraw any offer if the information on the form is incomplete or inaccurate.

Auditions/interviews

Before deciding whether to make you an offer, we may invite you for an audition/interview. These are held from November onwards for courses starting the following September/October.

If you are selected for an audition/interview your invitation will be sent to the email address you entered on your application form. This will detail exactly what you will need to prepare for the audition/interview. We try to give you at least three to four weeks advance notice of the date to give you time to prepare. Please check your junk/spam folders as sometimes invitation emails can be automatically routed there.

Audition/interview fees

For the BA (Hons) Acting there is a non-returnable audition/interview fee of £50. If Central invites you for an audition/interview you will be required to pay this fee by cheque or credit card. This includes candidates from outside the UK. Details will be sent with your invitation email/letter.

Receiving decisions for undergraduate courses

As soon as a final decision has been made on your application, we will notify UCAS who will, in turn, inform you. If you wish to check whether a decision has been made, you may track your application using the UCAS applicant enquiries service.
