Rachel Cockburn

Abstract

The practice-based research enquiry examines the theatrical modes employed in articulating the problematics of autobiographical performance, in turn suggesting an alternative aesthetics placed within a phenomenological framework.

Studio-based experimentation is focused on the relationship between the performer’s presence (or lack thereof) within film, installation and live performance. Does the performing body presuppose an autobiographical narrative within performance? What performance strategies can be implemented to destabilise the narrative agent? What implications does this have for the notion of ethical and political agency?
