Abstract of project
Can the performative elements of food and drink be used to explore processes of cultural hybridity through performance practices?
This interdisciplinary research combines elements of gastronomy and performance theory with aspects of cultural studies such as interculturalism, in the context of the culinary applied to performance, explicating the connection between gastronomy and intercultural methodologies.
Profile
After completing his Agricultural studies in Italy in 2004, Claudio embarked performing arts studies and trained as an actor in London before deciding to take an MA in advanced theatre Practice at Central School. He has developed collaborative theatre skills and formed his collaborative theatre company “Visitors” in London which creates intercultural performance. Claudio has been working cross-culturally with theatre practitioners from Europe, USA and China. Throughout the making of his cross-border work he managed to re-incorporate his passion for the gastronomy where he uses elements of food and drink as ethnic elements in the making of itercultural performance which in fact stimulated his enrolment for a Research Degree at Central. Claudio is currently freelancing as a critical reviewer in the food & wine industry and he is a regular member of well noted food & drink trade fair in London such as the Speciality food fair, Wine plus, International wine fair,la Dolce Vita and Taste of London. One of Claudio’s aim is to re-incoporate and encourage culinary cultural values in a McDonaldization era.
