Job title
Learning Skills Coordinator

Profile

I am an educator and researcher whose work focuses on problematising education, sociological research practices, and the politics of knowledge hierarchies of university curriculum through a critical lens.

I grew up in Algeria. I did my BA and MA in English and Applied Linguistics at the University of Abdelhamid Ibn Badis in Mostaganem. I arrived in the UK in 2017 where I did my MSc in Educational Research, then completed a PhD in Education in 2022 at the School of Education, University of Exeter. My thesis explored research methodology teaching and learning and students’ experiences of writing MA education dissertations within Algerian tertiary education system. During my time at Exeter, I worked as a student intern, research assistant, EDI advisor and a postgraduate teaching associate. My contributions to the Exeter community were recognised in winning the Exceptional Contribution to the Academic Experience in 2018 and be the runner-up for the Best Student Employee in the leadership category (2022). I am also a member of the Creativity and Emergent Educational-Futures Network (CEEN) and have recently contributed to a book chapter entitled, ‘reimagining research methods curriculum in education otherwise: a decolonising turn’ to their forthcoming edited book collection: creative ruptions for emergent educational futures, published with Palgrave MacMillan, 2024 (Open Access).

I joined Central in 2022 as Learning Skills Coordinator. My role consists of overseeing our Learning Development VLs and working closely with course leaders to offer tailored learning development to students and to co-ordinate the daily operations of the programme. My teaching and pedagogy are inspired by a relationality and dialogic informed praxis, and strive to become an inclusive, antiracist and decolonial educator.

Outside of Central, I am a visiting lecturer at the School of Education, University of Exeter, where I mark MA dissertations and supervise MA students on various courses such as TESOL, International Education and Education, Leadership and Management. In addition, I am a consultant and training provider in the areas of antiracism, inclusivity and social justice for Dr Muna Abdi’s MA Education Consultancy (Ltd) .To date, I have worked with many HE organisations and corporate organisations such as the University of Cambridge, the Wellcome Sanger Institute and IBM.

In 2020, I co-founded Decolonial Dialogues which aims to advance understanding and praxis surrounding decolonial thinking and activism.
