Course Title

BSL Acting Intensive

Join us this summer for a fun, practical and intensive week of deaf-led actor training, designed specifically for deaf actors.

This 5-day course is created by Central and Deafinitely Theatre in collaboration with Graeae Theatre Company, and will help you develop your acting skills.

BSL Acting Intensive will take place from Monday 15th July to Friday 19th July 2024, in person at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, London.

You will work on exercises and improvisations to approach acting challenges within an ensemble. There will be practical workshops in Acting Fundamentals, Translation, Movement, Visual Vernacular and Acting for Camera.

The course will be led by Paula Garfield, Artistic Director of Deafinitely Theatre, and Jenny Sealey MBE, Artistic Director of Graeae Theatre Company, alongside actor trainers from Central. As part of the course, you will also find out more about other BSL acting courses currently in development at Central.

The course aims to:

  • Introduce students to high-quality, practical actor training, bespoke for deaf artists.
  • Support students to plan the next steps in their actor training.
  • Explore and inform the development of future BSL acting courses at Central.

By the end of the course students will be able to:

  • Work on a variety of acting exercises individually and within an ensemble.
  • Use a variety of games, exercises and improvisations to approach acting challenges.
  • Reflect and feedback on the course content and how that applies to them as individual artists.
  • Identify their next training steps.
