Royal Central - ‘a new kind of research institution in the performing arts’
Research at Royal Central is characterized by diversity and internationalism, as well as informed by industry connections of the staff, ‘bridging the creative industries and the academy, and producing a range of outputs relating to performance practices’ and ‘practice as research’.
We aim to
- be recognised internationally for a leading role in research in theatre and performance
- retain, attract and support practitioner-researchers whose work is of the highest quality
- develop strategic alliances with key national and international partners.
Royal Central aims to undertake research activities that engage with important artistic, scholarly, social, cultural and economic developments in the field of theatre, drama and performance, creates new knowledge through a range of means and makes a difference to the ongoing development of these and other disciplines, with demonstrable impact.
We encourage staff to undertake research that is innovative and influential, by facilitating a culture that inspires and supports high-quality research and brings on promising and early-career researchers. Staff are encouraged to develop collaborations and cross traditional disciplinary boundaries to produce key insights and significant new knowledge and feed back the fruits of their research to students and colleagues.
