Knowledge Exchange

Central’s research activities are connected to industry practice, professional training, and community enterprise and activism. Much of our work takes place, or has applications, outside academe with client groups including theatre companies, performance venues, and voluntary organisations.

Case Study: Research and Knowledge Exchange

In 2007, Central academic Amanda Stuart Fisher worked on a verbatim project focusing on the problems of representing traumatic experience and the limits of verbatim theatre practices. The project partners were the applied theatre company Big Fish and a charity called MOSAC, which supports non-abusing parents of sexually abused children.

One of the outcomes was a verbatim play which had a professional dramatised reading to the general public, MOSAC’s service users, and professionals involved in child protection. The play was later also later presented at MOSAC's annual general meeting, attended by social workers and child welfare personnel.

Case Study: Bar of Ideas – Paradise Gardens 20 - 21 June 2009

A creative, educational, knowledge transfer and profile raising project.

The Bar of Ideas was initially created for the Theatre Materials conference at Central in April 2008 as the first step in realising a long held desire by the School’s Al Noonan and Julian Rudd, of Remarkable Productions, to develop an exciting, immersive show targeted at the outdoor theatre/street arts sector.

Al and Julian having worked together on shows for many years, including a number of highly successful collaborations with Central, believed strongly in the value and benefits of these collaborations for both the students and the professionals involved. They therefore wanted to create a show with this collaboration at its centre and with emphasis put on the process and the experience of the participants.
